A SECURITY Guard was on Wednesday sentenced to six months imprisonment for escaping police custody in 2015.
Troy Leacock, 30, of New Amsterdam, Berbice, appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan and confessed to the charge when it was read to him. The court heard that on July 20, 2015 at Kwakwani Park, Berbice River, while being escorted to the police station on a charge of narcotics trafficking, Leacock escaped.
Police Prosecutor, Arwin Moore, told the court that on July 20, 2015 at Kwakwani Park, Berbice, the police while conducting a raid at Leacock’s camp, found a quantity of cannabis and cocaine. The accused was arrested by police Inspector, Cameron during which a scuffle ensued between the two men. Leacock managed to escape with the handcuffs still intact. However, Leacock was recently seen and arrested by the police. The unrepresented man told the court he ran away because he was scared since the police wanted to frame him on a narcotics charge.
