Let’s support efforts to protect our environment

Dear Editor

AS the world transitions away from oil and wars cease in oil-rich states, the future profitability of the industry is definitely at risk over the long term.

There are times when it is better to join the new direction at its inception, rather than go where things are in decline due to hard-learned lessons. We must do our part as responsible world citizens, especially given that we sit in the lungs of the planet at the mouth of such a large percentage of its usable water. Money is good, but a good life is better. Tempering of the need to consume and remembering how well we did with little is a great teacher of what is important.

The world has been fighting for a more sustainable change in how we treat the environment and we must have the courage to embrace this change with the help of those who are leading it. There is still time to join in leading this change and if we are truly committed to helping prevent adverse changes to the Earth’s climate, then a careful and responsible approach to our energy policy should be undertaken. The time for change is now and no one should want more of the same short-sighted and unjust undertakings that have supported the oil industry during its decline.
