Two K.Os, two points decision and one stoppage highlights second night

BOXING fans could not have wanted it any better as the second night of the Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors’ Amateur tournament produced `fireworks’ when the tournament continued on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
There were five finals in the schoolboys’ category and of that amount, local boxers won three: one by points and the other two by knock-outs;one of them via a first round stoppage.Boxers from the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago won two fights:one by the knock-out route and the other by a unanimous points’ decision.
Guyana’s Richard Howard, Leon Moore Jr. and Omar Pollard kept the Golden Arrowhead flying with victories over their Trinidad counterparts, while Nyrel Hosein and Juan Rodriguez registered wins for Trinidad and Tobago.

Fighting in the 40Kg division, Howard knocked out Trinidad’s Abdul Taylor at one minute 13 seconds of the second round. While Moore, son of Guyana’s former world contender Leon Moore Sr. secured a unanimous points’ decision win against Trinidad’s Tyrique Hosein in their 44Kg encounter while Pollard, fighting in the 54Kg division, caused the referee to stop his contest against Trinidad’s Edwin Felix at 29 seconds of the first round.
One of Trinidad and Tobago’s two victories came by way of knock-out in the 52Kg division fight between Rodriguez and Guyana’s Shemar Hutson.
Rodriguez stopped Hutson at one minute 27 seconds of the first round, while Nyrel Hosein scored a unanimous points’ decision win against Guyana’s Patrick Harvey in their 46Kg contest.
There was another international contest in the international Schoolboys and Juniors’ category, which saw St. Lucia’s Kimlym Martie making the referee stop his contest against Guyana’s Emmanuel Pompey at one minute 15 seconds of the first round in their 63Kg division contest.

In other results from the second night’s proceedings, there were six bouts that involved all Guyanese combatants and in the 25Kg bout between Vickacy Graham and Moses Crawford, the former won by a unanimous points’ decision.In the 32kg division, Sean Graham caused the referee to stop his fight against Laterell Richards in the second round; Neil Garraway’s 35Kg fight against Shaquancy Wright was stopped at 50 seconds of the first round in favour of Wright and the referee was once again forced to stop the 50Kg contest between Junior Hyman and Isiah Moore at one minute 28 seconds of the second round in favour of Moore.
Jaquwan Milo secured a split decision win against Mark Crawford in their 52Kg contest and Inshaun Khan got a walk-over win against Anthony Patterson.
The championship was slated to conclude last evening at the same venue.
