Minibus Conductor charged with armed robbery

CITY Magistrate Fabayo Azore remanded a 25-year-old minibus conductor to prison for the offence of armed robbery.

Eon Worrell, of South Vigilance, East Coast Demerara, denied that on April 3, 2017 at the Kitty seawalls, Georgetown, he robbed Jeremy Sobers of an Iphone 6 cell phone valued $90,000, while being armed with a cutlass.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne strongly opposed bail on the grounds of the nature, seriousness and prevalence of the offence. The victim was reportedly chopped to his head by the accused and had to be rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Cooperation (GPHC).
Attorney Leslie Benjamin explained to the court that her client was at the GPHC with his aunt when he was identified as the alleged bandit by the victim. According to the lawyer, the police failed to conduct an identification parade. Magistrate Azore, however, remanded Worrell until April 19, 2017.
