Bandits rob Leonora businesswoman

POLICE in ‘D’ Division are investigating an armed robbery committed on a business establishment at ‘C’ Field, Leonora, West Coast Demerara, on Tuesday afternoon.

Police Commander Leslie James told the Guyana Chronicle that the robbery took place at about 13:00hrs at the businessplace of Rafeena Baksh who is a cooking gas and kerosene vendor. He disclosed that two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, went to the residence which houses the business and robbed Baksh of $300,000 in cash, silver jewels amounting to $80,000 and a digital video recorder (DVR) worth $60,000 and escaped.

James related that the two men, who were described as ‘youths’, showed up on foot and escaped in a similar manner, but it is believed that they had a vehicle waiting close by. The Commander added that no arrests have yet been made as investigations are ongoing.
