GUYANA All Stars, comprising mostly of Guyanese living in New York, Canada and their homeland, made it two in a row when they emerged winners of Orlando Premiere League (OPL) softball tournament which climaxed last Sunday in Orlando.
Facing Untouchables in the final of the Open tournament, which comprised eight teams, Guyana All Stars romped to a comfortable nine-wicket victory in a high scoring affair.
Set a formidable 222 for victory after Untouchables reached 221 for nine in their allotted 25 overs, Guyana All Stars reached the required target in 22.1 overs with openers Navin Singh

and Richard Latiff leading the way with 81 not out and 78 respectively. Singh struck 13 fours while Latiff counted 10. Martin Dutchin slammed an unbeaten 36 to end the match in fine style. The lone wicket went to Amar Singh.
Earlier, Untouchables were led to their challenging total through fine knocks from Prashad Mahadeo and former National youth player Andrew Gonsalves with 57 and 45 respectively.
There were three wickets for Bobby Prahalad and two each for Latiff and S. Kayoon. Navin Singh copped the man-of-the-match award.
Guyana All Stars were led by former Guyana captain and Canada-based Guyanese Damodar Daesrath. They carted off the winning trophy and US$5 000.
The annual tournament is organised by the OPL whose president is Steve Sarju.
