Teen killed in Vergenoegen accident

A teenage boy is the road’s latest fatality after he was struck off of his pedal cycle on Thursday afternoon while, negotiating a bad patch in the roadway at Vergenoegen Public Road, East Bank Essequibo, which is under repair works.
He has been identified as Ricardo Edwards, 17, of Vergenoegen Side Line Dam, East Bank Essequibo.
‘D’ Division Commander, Leslie James, told the Guyana Chronicle that the youth thought he would have made it across the road before the heavy duty-vehicle but was struck off of his bicycle. At the time, James said Edwards was riding on the northern half of the road and the lorry-type vehicle was proceeding westward when the fatal accident occurred shortly after 16:00hrs.
He suffered severe injuries including, a puncture to his head and was taken to the Lenora Cottage Hospital then transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and later to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he succumbed. The driver of the road construction vehicle is in custody assisting the police with the probe while, the body of the teen is awaiting a post mortem.
