Several in custody for illegal guns, ammo

A 38-YEAR-old man said to be a miner is in police custody after an unlicensed .32 Taurus pistol with 10 live matching rounds was found on his person following a search by police on Friday evening. A release said the man was apprehended by police ranks on a mobile patrol in the vicinity of the North Ruimveldt Market after they observed him acting in a suspicious manner.
The 38-year-old suspect, who resides in Safari Street, North Ruimveldt, is being processed for court.
The police also reported that on Wednesday, March 1, ranks in ‘A’ Division, acting on information received,went to Long Creek, Linden Highway, and carried out a search in two farm houses and found in excess of 11 kilograms of dried cannabis, an unlicensed shotgun and five cartridges.
Lindon Gordon, Artlain Menture, Devin Sandwell and a juvenile were arrested and charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and possession of firearm and ammunition without licence.
They appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs- Marcus on Friday at the Providence Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty and were remanded until March 10.
So far for this year, ranks of ‘A’ Division have seized six illegal firearms.
