PORT Mourant Training Centre One (PMTC 1) volley-ballers won the Aswell ‘Pumpkin’ Mohabir competition, organised by the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA).Playing in the final at the Blairmont Number Two ground, West Bank Berbice, PMTC 1 defeated their counterparts and rivals PMTC 2 in a hard-fought four-setter 3-1.
The eventual champions claimed the opening set 25-18, before PMTC 2 won by a similar scoreline to level the scores.
However, PMTC 1 then drew on all their experience to win the next two sets 25-22 and 25-23.
Earlier, PMTC 1 won from (GTCPM) 25-18; PMTC 2 defeated Tain Humanitarian 25-20; PMTC 2 won from GTCPM 25-19; PMTC 1 edged past the improving Tain Humanitarian 26-24; while PMTC 2 won a close encounter against Tain Humanitarian 25-23.
In the female version, Port Mourant Females upset Corriverton Jets 25-23 and 25-21. In the junior category three teams participated, namely Kennard’s Memorial, United and Black Beatles, with Black Beatles emerging victorious.
The PMTC connection made a clean sweep of the prizes in the senior category with PMTC 1 taking home the first place trophy, PMTC 2 the second place trophy, while close associates GTCPM carried home the third place prize.
The Individual category saw the PMTC players sweep the trophy stand – the best spiker prize went to Ronaldo Bobb (PMTC 2); the best setter on show was Jason Seelochan (PMTC 1); and the most valuable player (MVP) trophy went to Adriel Moore (PMTC 1).
In the female department, the MVP accolade went to Candacy Mentore of Port Mourant Females. The MVP of the junior category was Hellond Singh of Black Beatles.
