COUNCILLOR Malcolm Ferreira recently expressed concern that due to the stalling of repair works to the Albouystown Health Centre, persons have been using the facility for all manner of things, including as a place to have sex. This, he told a Council meeting, was brought to his attention by residents in the said community. Ferreira wanted to know just when the work would be completed.
Mayor Patricia Chase-Green concurred that a number of unwholesome activities are carried out around the health centre because there is no security there.
According to her, the work should be completed by the end of February.
She observed that oftentimes, people would lime in their vehicles outside of the centre while drinking alcohol and playing loud music.
As a result of the non-functional facility, the mayor also noted that there have been complaints of financial strains on residents who would now have to make their way to the Dorothy Bailey Health Centre or to the one in Festival City to access services.
Councillor Heston Bostwick, stood up to say that Ferreira’s reports are true and that he can produce evidence to support such if he has to.
The health centre has been out of order since around June 2016 and City Engineer, Colvern Venture, had cited lack of finances as a problem.
Venture had said that it was difficult for him to offer a specific time as to when works would be completed on the clinic. “I am not able to get materials on time,” he had stated.
