A 47-year-old man was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday for the murder and rape of a 65-year-old woman whom he reportedly killed during the course of a rape at her Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara home in October 2016.Jaipaul Jitlall called ‘Latta’ of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on October 02, 2016 he murdered the elderly woman.
He was remanded to prison and the case was transferred to the Leonora Magistrate’s Court for January 10, 2017.
According to reports on October 3, 2016, the woman was discovered by her son inside of her hammock with almost a dozen stab wounds about her body.
Investigators believe that the woman was raped before she was stabbed to death, because she was not wearing any underwear and her skirt was pulled up to her chest.
