SOME 36 youths are currently being trained in a skilled area at the Essequibo Technical Institute, through efforts of the Guyana Police Force’s ‘G’ Division.

The training programme commenced on October 03, 2016 and the exercise is geared at equipping them with a skill that will make them eligible for employment on the job market.

Some of the skilled areas that the youths are being trained in include welding, electrical installation, construction and heavy-duty equipment operation.

On November 19, 2016, the Charity Police Youth Group was also launched with an initial 42 members.

The youths were encouraged by the Division’s Deputy Commander, Deputy Superintendent Siwnarine to use their free time in a way that is constructive and beneficial to themselves and their community.

On November 20, the Divisional Commander, using funds acquired from a fund- raising activity bought and donated a sewing machine to the Good Hope/ Aurora Police Youth Group, in an effort to develop its members.

The handing over was done at an opening ceremony on the ‘Day of Sports’ for Police Youth Groups’ in that division, which was held at the Affiance Community Centre Ground.

Some 250 youths from nine groups were in attendance, and winners of the various sporting events were rewarded with cash prizes and trophies.
