Scores take burdens to Congress Place …Min Ally assures action will be taken

SCORES of people on Friday took advantage of another opportunity to meet government ministers and raise matters of concern at the PNCR-sponsored ‘Meet the People’ forum at the party’s headquarters Congress Place, Sophia.Several individuals and groups met with Minister of Social Cohesion Amna Ally and Minister within the Ministry of Communities Dawn Hastings-Williams and discussed various issues. Minister Ally told the Guyana Chronicle at Congress Place that the meetings with the public give citizens an opportunity to bring their issues directly to government, while the latter will be better able to understand the needs of the public at large.
On Friday a 15-member delegation comprising persons from Laluni and St. Cuthbert’s Mission approached the ministers with a petition for legislation to be passed in parliament for the legalisation of hemp. Other individuals and groups which visited complained about issues dealing with water, mining, public infrastructure (roads, playgrounds), labour matters, and various other issues affecting people in several areas.
“Let us say they have a problem with housing! We listen to them, we take the notes. We have forms, we record everything and if the solution has to come from the Minister of Housing, we send a letter introducing them to Housing and they go there.”
On Friday too, an attorney-at-law also approached the ministers with suggestions about development projects that government can adopt through the Ministry of Social Cohesion. Next Friday, Minister of Communities Ronald Bulkan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Greenidge will be at Congress Place between 10:00 hrs and 14:00 hrs to meet the public. The following Friday the public will have the opportunity to meet Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Basil Williams, while on December 9 Minister of State Joseph Harmon will be on hand to meet with the public.
