THE Lusignan Golf Club was the place to be for fans of golf when the Macorp Annual Classic Golf Tournament was contested last Saturday.The tournament,which was played in the Flights format,gave golfers who did not perform well in the Guyana Open,the opportunity to redeem themselves.
The tournament was played in the 19-36 handicap, 10-18 and the Championship Flight 0-9 categories. In the 19-36 category,Pastor Balgobin Ragnauth continued his fine form winning 67/26. Maurice Solomon came second with 70/24 while Carlos Adams and Laksmana Ramroop finished with 70/26 and 71/23 respectively.
In the 10-18 handicap, Parmanand ‘Max’ Persaud and his brother Patanjalee ‘Pur’ Persaud finished first and second with 66/13 and 66/16 respectively. Finishing behind them were Richard Haniff with 69/15, Roy Cummins with 70/13 and Hilbet Shields with 71/15.
The Championship Flight 0-9 handicap saw Lusignan Golf Club Vice President Patrick Prashad edging out former Guyana Open champion Mohanlall ‘Santo’ Dinanauth with a score of 67-9 to Santo’s 69/7.
Balgobin Ragnauth (67) finished fourth, Patrick Prashad finished third with 67. In second was ‘Pur’ Persaud with (66) while his brother ‘Max’ Persaud (66) finished first.Prizes were also awarded for best net scores from first to fourth overall.
According to Max, “I played one of my best games today. I did so well I had several birdie plays, missed a few but did get some. I made a few mistakes but I recovered quickly from them, kept focus, and so I brought it home.”
Nearest to The Pin (6’) was ‘Max’ Persaud, while Best Gross was a challenge between Prashad and Dinanauth, with Dinanauth winning on the back-nine count.
Club President Oncar Ramroop expressed gratitude to Macorp for their continued support of golf in Guyana.
