JAMAICA Football Federation (JFF) president, Captain Horace Burrell, is an angry man. The annoyance comes from a letter delivered by president of the St Ann Football Association, Danny Beckford, asking the JFF boss to resign.“The first move is for you as the president and your general secretary to leave the football asministration ASAP,” read the letter from Beckford.
According to Beckford, Jamaica’s football has regressed under the leadership of Burrell, inclusive of much wasting of resources, to the detriment of parish associations.
Beckford went on to say that Captain’s style of leadership has meant the organisations involved in building the nation’s football do not have a say in the decisions of the JFF, lending to a way forward that is just Burrell’s vision.
Beckford and Burrell seemed to have the same ideas about Jamaica’s football until the former broke ranks to back the election campaign of Orville Powell, who went on to lose comfortably to Burrell last year.
The St Ann FA president included a threat in his letter, addressed to the president and all members of his executive, saying; “And there will be efforts to remove you if not voluntarily walking away. It is imperative to save our football from you and your aforementioned flawed vision of our sport. The ball is in your half.”
Burrell has not minced his words in response to the threat, saying the JFF executive would be dealing with the issue.
“This is the second time this man has done that in weeks and almost all the existing (JFF) members have written in and have disassociated themselves,” said Burrell, in a response to the Jamaica Observer.
“My official response is that Mr Beckford will be dealt with by the executive committee, as more than 90 per cent (of executives) have expressed their displeasure in the letter and they will deal with him at the next meeting,” said Burrell.(Sportsmax.com)
