Lack of police support

Dear Editor,

I WRITE to highlight a recent occurrence that happened in my community of Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice.During the recent August holiday, a Cricket Academy (two weeks’ duration) was held by the Bush Lot United Sports Club/Bush Lot Rising Stars 1st Division Cricket Team. This academy attracted 20 students, my son included, with an age range of 8 – 16 years, many of whom were from poverty-stricken homes.

This programme was run free of cost to the participants.

Editor, this programme was run under the supervision of one Mr. Saywack, a stalwart in young people development. However, the point I want to make concerns the lack of support from the police in these ventures. Mr. Saywack was using a ‘cricket net’ in his programme, and this net was stolen one night from under the eyes of the security at the Bush Lot Secondary School. A report was made to the Fort Wellington Police Station, and to date no action has been taken.

Further, a letter was sent to the Commander, Mr. L Amsterdam, on this issue (see letter attached), yet no action was taken; hence my letter to you.

It is my hope that this letter would attract the attention of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ramnarine, and then maybe some action will be taken.
Regards,
CONCERNED PARENT
