“Yes Lord” shouts man freed of narco charge

“YES LORD!” 43-year-old security guard Nigel Duke, of Lot 1985 Festival City, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, shouted, seconds after City Magistrate, Judy Latchman found him not guilty for possession of narcotics.Duke and Sharda Mohammed, 47, of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Geogetown, were charged for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. The charge against Mohamed was also dismissed.

It is alleged that on June 15, 2016 at Nutmeg Street, North Ruimveldt, they had in their possession 2.738 kilograms (more than six pounds) of compressed cannabis (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking.

The magistrate in her ruling stated that even though Duke had control of the premises at the time the drug was found, the prosecutor presented no evidence to show that he had control and knowledge of the drugs.

According to the prosecutor’s facts, on the day in question, Mohammed had visited Duke’s workplace which houses a car, Internet café and apartments to take lunch for him.

Ranks, acting on information, arrived at the location and requested a search of the premises. During the search, the compressed cannabis was found in the kitchen of the Nutmeg Street residence.

Mohammed in defence told the ranks that she “just came to drop off lil food” for Duke.
