–after being accused of impregnating another woman

SHEVON Harry of the John Fernandes Squatting Area in Georgetown was last Friday shot in the mouth by her reputed husband after she accused him of impregnating another woman.

Reports are that after the mother of two was shot, she sprinted out of the home she shares with her assailant and collapsed on a dam. She was picked up by a neighbour and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), where she was admitted.

The critically injured woman, a security guard attached to the Alliance Security Service, is reportedly in stable condition after undergoing surgery to have the bullet removed.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that her reputed husband made good his escape on a motorcycle which was parked a short distance from their home.

Residents of the community say the couple shared a “rough” relationship, and a neighbour has said that the woman had been a constant victim of domestic violence. One woman in the neighbourhood described the assailant as a very abusive and controlling individual. She described Harry’s reputed husband as a very jealous man who had opposed her being in the company of certain friends, both male and female.

Although residents described Harry as a very hardworking and quite individual, they said she was very secretive and had cut ties with several of her relatives because her partner did not approve of her relationship with them.
