PRIME Minister Moses Nagamootoo has arrived in India to attend several events of the Tamil community there, and to receive an award which honours outstanding personalities from the Tamil community after he declares open the 3rd World Tamils Economic Conference.A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister was released to the media on Saturday with the foregoing details.
The title of “Crown Jewel of World Tamils” Award, which the PM has been selected to receive, will be conferred on October 4, 2016. Prior to this, PM Nagamootoo will declare open the 3rd World Tamils Economic Conference and deliver the inaugural address.
The aim of the World Tamils Economic Conference is reportedly to bring together the Tamil and Indian communities in the world in order to foster cooperation and tap the vast human and material resources for a collective growth.
The Prime Minister, in response to the invitation to participate in the Conference, said he “looks forward to forging stronger ties between Guyana and the World Tamil community, especially entrepreneurs and industrial leaders of Tamil Nadu.”
He said Guyana has an open-door policy that welcomes all investors and economic partners from around the world.
PM Nagamootoo is being accompanied by Mrs. Sita Nagamootoo. The duo arrived to a rousing welcome on Saturday evening for the Conference in Chennai, India. Upon his arrival in Delhi, the PM was received by Guyana’s new High Commissioner to India, Dr. David Pollard; First Secretary Mr. Forbes July, and other staff of the High Commission.
During the airport reception, Conference Conveyor Dr. VRS Sampath and officials of the Ministry of External Affairs greeted the Guyanese PM and his wife with scarves and bouquets. Also in the welcome party was Dr. M. Pannavaikko, Pro-Chancellor of the Bharath University which will also honour the Prime Minister later this week.
