INVESTIGATORS are yet to make an arrest in the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Ryan Sargeant, who met his demise outside the Rio nightclub on Forshaw and Oronoque streets in Queenstown, Georgetown on Monday morning.Sargeant, called “Harry”, of Lot 25 Layou Street, North Ruimveldt, was reportedly shot to the head while 48-year-old Jeffrey Ferrell was shot to the neck and shoulder. Ferrell remains hospitalised.
‘A’ Division Police Commander Clifton Hicken told the Guyana Chronicle that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is working to fully enhance the images captured on surveillance footage. According to Hicken, police have obtained camera footage from the nightclub and from several other businesses in the vicinity.
He said investigators are working around the clock to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice, and several raids will take place in different areas. The Commander disclosed that the police are looking for three suspects, whom they want to question in the relation to the shooting.
The shooting took place at about 02:30h outside the Rio club, and the police have closed circuit television video (CCTV) footage of the incident. Sleuths reported that they know who they are looking for to question in relation to the incident, and are trying to contact those persons, one of whom was seen exiting the nightclub with a gun in his hand.
Investigators were told that several men armed with guns were observed exiting the nightclub discharging rounds when a fight broke out inside the bar. It was then the group left the bar and went outside, and the teenager was shot and killed in the crossfire.
