St George’s captain Dominic James dies after collapsing during Manning Cup match

 

… Guyana’s Director of Sport sends letter of condolence

JAMAICA’S Schoolboys football fraternity was plunged into mourning on Tuesday afternoon following the death of St George’s schoolboy footballer Dominic James who died after collapsing during a match against Excelsior.The match was just four minutes old when James collapsed on the field at Stadium East, suffering from what appeared to be convulsions. The stricken player was taken to the Medical Associates hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
As news filtered back to the match, close to halftime, which was later postponed, players could be seen crying for the loss of their teammate and team captain. The midfielder who was handed the armband this season was also a part of Waterhouse and national Under-20 teams.
Meanwhile, Guyana’s Director of Sport Christopher Jones has dispatched a letter of condolence on the untimely passing of James.
“On behalf of the sporting fraternity in Guyana I extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mr Dominic James, captain of the St George’s College football team. We, in Guyana, share in his family’s, St George’s College’s, the Jamaican football and sporting fraternities’ and all of Jamaica’s grief at this time. His unexpected and tragic passing no doubt must cause emotional distress.
We in Guyana hold Dominic’s parents and relatives, the St George’s College family and the people of Jamaica in our thoughts and prayers in this time of mourning.”
