Magistrate Annette Singh on Wednesday dismissed the case against People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Parliamentarian, Bishop Juan Edghill, who was charged with dumping a derelict vehicle on a parapet in front his home on April 18.

The case was brought against the former Junior Finance Minister by the Georgetown Mayor and City Council. According to a statement from Edghill on Wednesday, the case was dismissed after the Magistrate found the testimony of City Constable Anasha Williamson to be unreliable.

Edghill had pleaded not guilty to the charge and according to the statement, during the trial, Williamson’s testimony was found to be inconsistent, incoherent and contradictory “which clearly revealed that the charge was designed by the City authorities to embarrass and defame Bishop Edghill.”

The statement further noted that Edghill is “seriously concerned about the abuse of the judicial process to target, intimidate and victimise Guyanese for political and other purposes.”

“I am urging that we continue to build a society where social justice, fairness and equity are upheld by all. Furthermore, I encourage public servants and officials in the employ of the State to be professional and refuse being used as instruments to settle political scores by the APNU/AFC Administration,” the Parliamentarian was quoted as saying in the statement.

He was represented by Attorney Sase Gunraj.
