Stallions beat off Vintage; Saints ease past Knockers

OLD Fort Stallions and St Stanislaus were victorious as action in the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB)-sanctioned Lucozade Indoor hockey league continued on Tuesday.In the first match the Old Fort Stallions out-classed their GCC Vintage counterparts 5-2.
Omar Hopkinson in the 2nd minute opened the scoring for the Stallions with Vintage responding just six minutes later via the same field goal method, this time from the stick of Alan Fernandes.
The half ended 1-1 and it looked either side’s game.
On the return, Eric Hing gifted the Vintage side the lead in the 24th minute after which Jason De Santos brought the game level in the 25th minute through his penalty corner.
However, Hopkinson (28th) and two successive strikes on the 39th and 40th by De Santos ensured that Old Fort maintained victory by a large margin.
In game two of the evening, Saints overcame their Old Fort Knockers 4-2.
Dehron Wilkinson’s 9th minute field goal opened the scoring for the Old Fort side before Hilton Chester tied it up with a successful penalty corner in the 10th.
The half ended 1-1 with both teams trying to end the deadlock. However, it was Ato Greene’s 26th minute strike that finally did it.
But that lead was short-lived as Jael Gaskin tied it up again in the 30th minute.
Greene then returned to the rescue three minutes later and Robert Fernandes sealed the deal in the 40th minute
Matches continue tomorrow.
