THE Guyana Karate College, in collaboration with the Guyana Olympics Association (GOA) successfully held its 2016 Olympic Karate Championships at the YMCA Thomas Lands on Sunday.Several of Guyana’s up and coming junior athletes recorded creditable results in the various categories.
In the Male 6-8 years Kata, Pratush Deokinandan beat Deigo Denobrega and Alex Benjamin respectively while Benjamin took the Kumite class ahead of Mario Hodge and Deokinandan.
On the distaff end for Kata, Chelsea Benjamin defeated Rayniah Bridgewater and Danielle Persaud respectively while Pooja Lam, outdid both Bridgewater and Benjamin in that order on the Kumite end.
In the male 9-11 years Kata, William Grant, Matthew Gurahoo and Aaron Persaud finished in that order while Kumite saw Nathon Archer beat Mark Singh and Grant respectively.
On the distaff side, Hannah Farinah overcame Tessa DeNobrega and Riana Narine in Kata while Narine, Farinah and Jasmin Hodge finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively for the Kumite.
Ridwan Juman, Sean Wesley and Abdoul Diallo took top honours in the Male 12-14 Kata while Orlando Giddings, Shaquon Norville and Mark Crawford were the respective podium finishers for the Kumite.
Aliya Wong beat Jessica Callender and Javena Doodnauth in the female Kata division. There was no Kumite.
