..Cleveland Forde looking for third title

THOUGH an unspecified number of Barbados athletes were schedule to arrive last evening, other athletes from Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua, St Lucia, St Vincent, and Dominica, were already in Guyana earlier yesterday and are all geared up to take on Guyana’s best at today’s CARICOM 10 km.From Trinidad and Tobago, there are veteran distance runner Curtis Cox, and Collin Pereira. From Antigua are Kamar Thomas, Kalique St Jean, and Abbe Davis, while there are Jason Sawyers and Michael Biscette from St Vincent and Stelly Martyin and Rick Timothy from Dominica.
On the Guyana side, we have the defending men’s 10 km champion Cleveland Forde looking to grab his third consecutive CARICOM 10km title. Outside of the regional competition, Forde will also have to fight off the challenges from local boys Cleveland Thomas, and Winston Missengher.
On the female side, Guyana has Euleen Josiah-Tanner, Shyon Boyer, Andrea Foster and Claudrice McKoy, participating.
Set to start off this morning at 6am, almost 100 local and regional athletes are registered to take part at the annual event, which is set to begin in front of the CARICOM Secretariat in Liliendaal and finish in the National Park.
The competition will feature the main 10 km event, while there will also be a 5 km race targeting mainly secondary school children, and a 1,500m race for primary school students. The 10 km will feature cash prizes for both the male and female categories, while the other races are also expected to attract prizes.
Registration for all of the events will continue tomorrow morning before the races.
