Andrew Hicks wins Olympic Day feature 10-lap cycle race

BERBICE cyclist Andrew Hicks on Sunday won the feature 10-lap race for junior and juvenile cyclists when the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) in collaboration with the Guyana Cycle Federation (GCF) staged a five-race programme in observance of World Olympic Day.The programme, which was staged around the inner circuit of the National Park and which was coordinated by Hassan Mohamed, saw Hicks dominate the 10-lap event and finished ahead of Nigel Duguid and Vishal Bascomb respectively.
The five-lap race for mountain bikers was won by Keon Thomas. Second was Kester Croal and finishing third was Juliuo Melville.
The three-lap race for BMX Boys 9-12 years of age was won by John Niles. Shay Sue Hang placed second and Christopher Goring third.
Adaline Hodge won the BMX Boys 12-14 three-lap event ahead of Toran Garbarran, while Rachael Sharma won the two-lap affair for BMNX Boys 6-9 years of age.
The day’s activity was staged under the International Olympic Committee’s three-pillar theme: Move, Learn and Discover.
