A 42–year–old vagrant was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the charge of attempt to break and enter. Junior Luther appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore and requested that he be sentenced since he does not want to waste the court’s time. The court heard that on June 19 at Waterloo Street, Georgetown, Luther attempted to break into the dwelling house of Clairmont Gibson with intent to steal.
Luther revealed to the court that he is self-employed and lives on the streets of North Road.
“Ya honour ah sickly and I don’t want to waste the court time or neither my time, so please be lenient with me,” the vagrant told Magistrate Moore.
According to the police, Luther was caught inside the premises by the homeowner and was taken to the Brickdam Police Station. The court heard that Luther is known to the police and had once served an 18- month sentence for narcotics possession.
Magistrate Moore explained to Luther that the maximum penalty attached to the offence is five years and he had imposed a light sentence only because he opted to save the court’s time.
