Speaking at the Albion Sports Complex where the distribution was held, Minister with responsibility for Housing, Valarie Adams-Patterson, said the exercise was to reach out and provide affordable housing to citizens.

“Today is one of many events planned to interact and assist the public. We have houselots available, so we came and do on-the-spot allocations. Those who do not have an application in [the] system, they can also do the requisite and have their applications filled on site.”

Successful outreaches were also done in New Amsterdam, Linden and Lethem and will continue in Region Five today.

During the first session of the outreach, applications from ranks of the Guyana Police Force were seen and processed. The second half of the day was dedicated to deal with residents’applications.

Based on a request by the Police Association, ranks who had applications in the system but were not allotted houselots, were given their s on the spot.

Aside from the houselot distribution, issues facing residents pertaining to housing were also addressed.

Meanwhile, ‘B’ Division Commander Ian Amsterdam, who was also at the outreach, said ranks who will be housed in the area will make the community safer.

Special Constable Eartha Caesar, now a proud owner of a houselot, said she is delighted to have finally received one after applying since 2011.

Caeser intends to commence building as soon as she can.

“I can now breathe a breath of relief to finally be the owner of a houselot. I was allotted a land at Fort Ordinance and it feels like a dream come through, cause since then I applied and today I come and everything taken care of, I am very proud,” she said.
