President David Granger has departed Guyana, to attend the Association of Caribbean States’ 7th Summit of the Heads of Government/States, in Havana, Cuba from June 2-4, 2016.
The Head of State is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Carl Greenidge and Director General (acting) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Audrey Waddell.
Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo was this morning sworn in to perform the duties of the President. Also present at the swearing in was the Minister of State, Joseph Harmon; Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, Brigadier General Mark Phillips; and Police Commissioner (acting) David Ramnarine
According to the Association’s website, the Summit of the ACS is the most important meeting of the organization; held periodically at the very highest level, facilitating the convergence of Heads of State and/or Government or their High Level Representatives from the entire Membership of the organisation, being Member States, Associate Members, Founding Observer Organisations, Observer Countries, Observer Organisations, as well as Specially Invited Guests from other International and Regional organisations.
The Association says that integral to its Summit’s proceedings, is the discussion of regional and global affairs, more specifically as they relate to regional cooperation on the focal areas of the Association, Sustainable Tourism; Trade Development and External Economic Relations; Air and Maritime Transport and Disaster Risk Reduction.
