The first charge read that Griffith, on April 28 on Lamaha Street, drove motor car PTT 9623 in a dangerous manner to the public, thereby causing the death of Spencer.
He was also charged for taking a vehicle without the owner’s permission; for being an unlicensed driver for the class of vehicle; and for breach of insurance. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
According to the lawyer, his client was not the driver of the motor vehicle. He was a mere passenger of the said car.
“The only thing my client remembers is waking up in the hospital after the accident,” Burch-Smith told the court.
However, Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones strongly objected to bail on the grounds of the nature, gravity and penalty attached to the offences.
Jones pointed out that a life had been lost because of the teen’s recklessness. He said according to the police’s facts and eyewitness accounts, Griffith was the only person in the car.
The Chief Magistrate however overruled the prosecution’s objections and granted the teen bail. The cause of death case was transferred to Court Five, while the other traffic-related offences were moved to Court 7 and adjourned for June 6.

According to reports, Griffith was speeding along Lamaha Street when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and struck down Spencer.
The vehicle subsequently collided with two other cars and flipped several times before landing on its side. At the time of the accident, the road was wet from prolonged showers during the day.
The 41-year-old mother of two was said to have been walking west when the car travelling in the opposite direction slammed into her, the impact of which flung her into a nearby yard.
The woman was reported to have died on the spot, but was officially pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Griffith was extricated from the badly wrecked vehicle and transported to the hospital.
