THE Golden Jubilee Theatre Festival is offering the opportunity for some to relive memories and the rest just to appreciate the talents of Guyanese performers, doing Guyanese plays.
On Sunday May 15, Godfrey Naughton returns in that signature role to thrill patrons at the National Cultural Centre, a press release stated. He will be joined by new stars Nicholas Singh (Mr.Pressure), Shevon Henry (Mrs. Pressure), Opara Samuel, Melinda Primo, Fredrick Minty and others. Naughton directs this hilarious play which is said to be Guyana’s greatest ever comedy, the release said.

Tickets can be purchased from Andrews Supermarket, Nigel’s Supermarket, NCC box office and cast members. The plays in the festival were picked from different eras, depicting those times and the state that spawned their origins, and The House of Pressure is such a play.
The stage version has set box office records and in its ninth straight night of performance, patrons were paying to stand in the National Cultural Centre. Mr. Pressure played by Anthony Stewart, Mrs. Pressure played by Margaret Lawrence and Strumbly played by Godfrey Naughton kept audiences going at a “laffa minute.”
At that time, the poor roads, long lines for basic food items spelt of the “pressure” to survive in Guyana. The radio serial drama, of the name The House of Pressure, was bound to attract instant attention.
However, the quality of the writing by Ian Valz and the superlative acting more than lived up to the hype and anticipation. It is now a theatre legend, helped by its conversion to stage by the same playwright, the release concluded.
