RELATIVES of Rudolph Bess and Hansranie Persaud, who were killed on April 17, 2016 in an accident at Coverden, East Bank Demerara (EBD), are concerned that the drunk driver has not been charged and is walking free.Persaud, 16, of 417 Golden Grove and Bess, 23, of 220 Kaneville Gardens, EBD were returning home on a motorcycle from a party at about 03:50 hrs when the accident occurred. Persaud’s right leg was found about 13 feet away from her body, while Bess’s skull was crushed.

The driver who was released from medical treatment days after the accident, Jason Baskarran, 23, of Track ‘B’ Timehri, EBD was driving Toyota Prado PHH 8034 when the accident occurred.
The father of the 23 year-old Rudolph Bess told this publication that they have not been receiving any information on the status of the case.
“I am calling on the Police Force to quickly send the file to the DPP, and based on the evidence a decision and recommendation will be made,” the grieving father said.
Bess reflected that once he was involved in an accident and although he was not the guilty party he was in police custody for an entire week. “I can’t see how a man involved in the accident and is being blamed for the accident is walking freely when two people are dead.”
According to Hansranie Persaud’s mother, Savitri Bagnauth, she has not heard anything much from the Police, only that no one has been charged as yet.
