TRAVIS Pilgrim of Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown was on Monday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he was busted with over 1.8 kilos of cannabis in a rice bag.The 28-year-old miner denied that on April 28, while at the Port Kaituma Waterfront, North West District (NWD), he had in his possession 1.814 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not disclose the facts to the court, but pointed out that the analysis on the drug is still outstanding.
The unrepresented Pilgrim told the court that he was disembarking a ferry at the Waterfront when a woman with several children begged him to help her carry the bag of rice to the market. He explained that he complied without asking what was in the said bag. The 28-year-old further pointed out that he was beaten by the police to sign statements admitting to the act.
He was refused bail, and the matter was transferred before the Matthews Ridge Magistrate for August 3.
