THE National Association for Women’s Football (NAFWF) will commence its `Revival of Women’s Football Tournament’ today at the Tucville Community Centre ground from 10:00hrs.The NAFWF, an affiliated member of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), with the primary purpose to aid in the development of women in football across Guyana, has organised the two-day tournament with the support of the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples and the GFF.
This event will see the participation of women’s teams from across Guyana including Essequibo, Berbice, Bartica, Linden and Lethem in a two-day seven-a-side event which is geared at regenerating media and stakeholder interest in supporting the development of young girls and women through football.
The participating teams are: Fruta Conqueror FC ‘A’, `B’ and `C’ (G/town), Foxy Ladies FC (West Dem), New Amsterdam Warriors FC (East Berbice), West Side Conquerors FC (West Berbice), Demerara Queens (Linden), Piaomak Warriors (Lethem), Essequibo Warriors (Essequibo) and Striking Dolls (Bartica).
Each team will be placed in two groups of five for a round-robin stage with the top two teams in each group going on to the knockout stage.
Group one comprises Eagles `1’, Foxy Ladies, NA United, Bartica and Essequibo, while Group two will see Eagles `2’ and `3’ as well as West Side, Demerara Queens and Lethem.
