GEORGETOWN Cricket Club (GCC) closed the opening day of their semi-final match of the Georgetown Cricket Association two-day tournament on 172-5, replying to hosts Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), 301.The batsmen set to resume today are Ronald Ali-Mohammed on 11 and Devon Lord on 8. GCC still face a first-innings deficit of 129 runs.
After winning the toss and deciding to make first use of the surface, DCC were bowled out for 301 in 53 overs.
Brain Sattaur, Christopher Barnwell and Sherfane Rutherford stroked contrasting half-centuries to propel DCC to the 300 landmark.
Sattaur, who put together 88 for the first wicket with Tevin Imlach (16), smashed his way to 70, inclusive of ten fours and four sixes.
Barnwell made an attacking 68, and reached the boundary on 11 occasions in addition to two maximums, while Rutherford’s knock of 52 included four fours and similar amount of sixes.
Dennis Squires contributed a quick-fire 38 to the total, with one four and five sixes.
Bowling for GCC, Vishaul Singh claimed 3-40, Raymond Reifer 2-55, Anthony Adams 2-75, Devon Lord 1-52 and Robin Bacchus 1-45, were the successful bowlers.
In reply, GCC lost Bacchus (8), Manny Ford (12), Vishwanath Ramlakan (10), Singh, for an attractive 74 and Reifer (33).
Totaram Bishun has so far snatched three wickets, while Barnwell and Sattaur were the other successful bowlers.
Meanwhile, in the other semi-final game between the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and GNIC Sports Club, GNIC closed day one on 61-5, replying to the GDF’s first innings 191.
