THE National Mine Workers’ Union of Guyana has extended its full support to the first Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Bartica, Gifford Marshall and Kamal Persaud respectively.A statement from Sherwyn Downer, president of the union, noted that the victory at the March 18 Local Government Elections should be seen as a victory for Barticians, and not for a party or individual, so that the long-awaited development of Bartica would be realized.
“The National Mine Workers’ Union of Guyana calls on all Barticians to pledge their unwavering support to the youth leadership of the new Town Council. In so doing, the potential of Bartica, the dream Bartica (which) all Barticians (were) longing for, will now be a reality. Let’s work together to make our town the envy of other towns in Guyana,” Downer admonished in the statement.
The union, he expressed, stands ready and willing to work with and support the new Town Council of Bartica by “whatever way (is deemed) necessary to further the development of Bartica and its residents, provided that developments and works are being done within the (ambit) of the law and the best interest of the residents.”
Downer expressed hope that the services that come with township will be provided fairly, and not selectively, by the new Mayor and Town Council of Bartica.
