WEST Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo will hope that life imitates art, so to speak, following the release of his new track ‘Champion’ ahead of the start of the team’s ICC World T20 campaign. The Windies will be looking for their second hold on the title since first claiming it four years ago and Bravo hopes his tune, which pays tribute to some of the region’s top athletes, will serve as motivation.
In addition to himself and batting star Chris Gayle, who joined the ‘Chalo Chalo’ singer on stage for an impromptu performance on Monday night, the song mentions the likes of the West Indian legend Brian Lara, NBA star Michael Jordan, U.S. President Barack Obama, former South African president Nelson Mandela, tennis star Serena Williams and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt as being ‘champions’.
The regional team, number two-ranked in the world behind hosts India, will open their campaign against England at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai today..
After facing England today the West Indies will play Sri Lanka on March 20, South Africa on March 25 and finish against Afghanistan on March 27. Only the top two sides of each group will progress to the semi-finals.
