WHAT started with 32 teams, boils down to the ‘final four’ as the Petra Organisation’s Milo Schools football tournament prepares to host its semi-final today at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue. In the opening game from 16:00hrs, Queen’s College will collide with Lodge Secondary, while defending champions Chase Academy face South Ruimveldt Secondary.
Queen’s College had overcome rivals Bishops’ High school 4-2 on penalty, while Chase were dominant in their 3-0 win over North Ruimveldt Secondary in the quarter-finals to set up today’s interesting contest.
Laced with unarguably some of Guyana’s best youth talents, Chase Academy are clear favourites to win their second title in the competition’s fourth edition.
The likes of Kelsey Benjamin and Ryan Hackett are more than capable of taking Chase Academy to Saturday’s final, which is set for the same venue.
But while all eyes are on the star-studded defending champions, South Ruimveldt Secondary have been quietly creating a stir in the tournament.
Cecil Jackson, South Ruimveldt’s leading goalscorer, could cause some trouble for the Chase defence who are yet to be really tested in the tournament.
However, on the other end of the pitch, interestingly, South Ruimveldt will be hard-pressed to do what few schools in the city have been able to do, which is, to shut down Chase’s well-oiled attack.
