Wayne `Big Truck’ Braithwaite continued on a smooth road in professional boxing when he retained the World Boxing Council (WBC) cruiserweight title following a Technical Knock Out (TKO) victory over American Revea Springs. The fight was held on February 21, 2003 at the Miccosukee Indian Gaming Resort in Miami.
Braithwaite, the second Guyanese to win a world title, dropped the American southpaw twice in round four which forced referee Tommy Kimmons to call a halt to the action at two minutes and 40 seconds of the round.
The 27-year-old Guyanese improved his record to 19—0 with 16 knock outs. The title defence was the first for Braithwaite who won the crown four months earlier. He would have two more successful defences before colliding with Frenchman Jean Marc Mormeck in April 2005.
Braithwaite lost by unanimous decision in an attempt to capture the Frenchman’s World Boxing Association (WBA) title. In September of the same year the Guyanese southpaw lost by fourth round TKO to Panamanian Guillermo Jones.
