Mason on $150,000 bail for beating employee with spade

RAVLON Pollard, 53, a mason of 707 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, charged with using a spade to inflict grievous bodily harm on his worker, Imran Khan, on Friday, January 22, at East La Penitence, Georgetown.Pollard denied the allegation, but the police prosecutor told the court that both parties were known to each other. The accused went to Khan’s residence and told Khan that he had “lil construction wuk” for him. Khan agreed to take the job, and followed Pollard to the worksite. It is alleged that while Khan was busy at work, Pollard approached him from behind and dealt him several lashes about his body with a spade. The matter was reported and Pollard was charged.

The Chief Magistrate inquired from the prosecutor if he had done a psychiatric evaluation on the accused, because it was strange that, without reason, someone could have beaten another person with a spade.

The prosecutor replied that the police did not have an evaluation done on Pollard.

Pollard was placed on $150,000 bail. A condition of his being granted bail is that he remains 25 feet away from Khan. The matter was adjourned until February 18.
