THE mixed jury in the trial of the alleged murder of doctor’s wife Sheraney Doobay, heard that the woman was hammered to death on May 2, 2011 by the accused who was asked to pay rates and taxes.Shakir Mohamed of Echilibar Villas, Campbellville, who is said to have committed the offence, has pleaded not guilty.
He is being defended by Attorney-at-Law, Mr Maxwell Mc Kay.
Prosecutrix Ms Narissa Leander told the Court on Thursday that she was expected to call her last witness Thursday afternoon.
The witness Indranie Singh, who is residing in the United Kingdom, is expected to testify via Skype.
The current trial is a re-trial. The first trial ended with a “hung jury.” Justice Navindra Singh is presiding at the current trial.
A caution statement given to the police by accused Shakir Mohamed was tendered in evidence without opposition.
The caution statement of Mohamed read in part. “Look, I read dis man Mark story, and dat is nah wah really happen. About two weeks back he start to tell me that he aunty get he ah pay rates an taxes and like that got into he and he plan fuh kill she.
“De Tuesday he tell me he wan me to drop he off by she fuh gee she some money. I drop he off with my car HB 9260 and he tell me fuh park away from she house and me walk and go by she . (He had a hammer wrap up in a black plastic bag).
“When we reach de house, she open the kitchen door, we guh in and he tell she dat we get a wuk in de area and we hungry. She said she ain’t cook, but she gon gee wee sandwich and drink. She mek three sandwiches with cheese Jam and I think butter.
“Me eat one, he eat one and she gee Mark the other one fuh eat. During that time another aunty call from England (who is dis aunty Urik dead sista) and dem talk. After dat as we start to walk out the house, me in front and he went a little beind me ( he tek the hammer which was still in the bag and lash she on the mold or base ah she head. She scream one time and he lashed she again and she fell pon me and I ease she down to the ground in de kitchen.
“Later he threw the black bag without the hammer in de gutter at the corner of Stone Avenue and Fourth Street.”
