A GUNSHOT wound that a 20-year-old Guyanese sustained in Venezuela led to his demise on Saturday, after he subsequently sought medical attention in Port Kaituma, Region One.Dead is Keron Caleb, who worked in the backdam at Polvo De Or in Venezuela, four to six hours from Port Kaituma by road.
Reports disclosed that, while in Venezuela, he and a friend called Sherwayne Santiago were transporting fuel on an ATV when a firearm which he had on his person was inadvertently discharged and he was hit in the left groin. This resulted in severe bleeding, which subsequently led to his death. His friends took four hours to transport him, via a trail called “M2 road”, to Port Kaituma.
Meanwhile, police are trying to ascertain how the 20-year-old ended up dead at 15:30hrs in the Port Kaituma hospital. According to reports, Caleb was still alive and was communicating with his relatives in Guyana, but it was too late after his condition deteriorated rapidly, and he succumbed to his injuries.
A police official said the GPF received reports that Caleb shot himself while playing with a firearm.
