In brief remarks, President David Granger said the reception was one in which he received a “gift for the children of Guyana”.

“If children in one part of the country can get to school to access education, then every child must be in school,” the President said.
Saying that poverty would be eliminated with education, the President thanked the business community for participating in the Three Bs initiative, terming the public a public good. “It’s not an act of greed or selfishness,” he added.

He said that every creek and river across Guyana must have a boat to ease the transportation woes experienced by the children, and he expressed hope that in future he would not see children going to school at 10:00 hrs in the morning because of transportation issues.

“Today, I received the greatest Christmas gift of all, the gift of a boat,” the President said.
