BARBADOS Pride completed a comprehensive 10-wicket victory over the hapless Leeward Islands Hurricanes at the Kensington Oval yesterday, the third day of the scheduled four-day regional encounter.Set one run for victory, Barbados duly knocked off the winning run, earning 19 points in the process.
The day started with the Barbados Pride, as expected, asking the visitors to bat again after they were dismissed for 170 in the first innings and conceded a lead of 198 in reply to the homesters first innings score of 368.
The Hurricanes started their second innings disastrously, losing openers Chesney Hughes (0) and Shane Jeffers (one) with just six runs on the board, both to fast bowler Tino Best.
They were further undone by the spin of Sulieman Benn and Ashley Nurse who claimed four for 50 and three for 67 respectively, the latter ending with impressive match figures of eight for 132. Best took two for 17 from six overs.
Middle-order batsman Orlando Peters hit a top score of 59, counting 10 fours in the process while Jacques Taylor, batting at number eight struck four fours and two sixes in his 52. Fast bowler Gavin Tonge also enjoyed himself towards the end, clouting six sixes in his 39 before becoming one of Benn’s victims.
Roston Chase was named man-of-the-match for his brilliant unbeaten 136 in Barbados’s first innings.
Barbados Pride, who started the fifth round in third position behind leaders Guyana Jaguars (70) and Jamaica Scorpions (50), have advanced to 63 points with the win.
