ALBION Sports Club spin twins Veerasammy Permaul and Gudakesh Motie proved too much for the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force team and together they sparked the Guyana Jaguars to an emphatic WICB PCL fourth round victory at the Queen’s Park Oval yesterday.

Both Permaul and Motie mesmerised the Trinidadians and allowed the Guyanese Franchise outfit to celebrate a famous and comprehensive victory by an innings and 49 runs
It was the Jaguars fourth consecutive outright win and they collected 17 points for their dedicated efforts in their first away match of the 2015-16 professional double round-robin season.
Final Scores: T&T Red Force 210 and 216. Guyana Jaguars 475.
With 12 points for outright victory plus 3 bowling points and two batting points; the Guyana Jaguars moved to 70 points and maintained their overall lead and strengthened their chances of retaining the coveted Headley-Weekes Trophy, emblem of Regional First Class Supremacy.
The Red Force team was always up against the odds to thwart the Jaguars and only the fickle rainy weather conditions would have helped the homesters to stave off such an embarrassing and crushing defeat.
But despite the herculean efforts by Guyanese-born Narsingh Deonarine in tandem with Barbados-born Kyle Hope, the two franchise players in the T&T outfit; to rally the Red Force to a drawn match, the whole momentum changed when 20-year-old Motie outfoxed his Albion clubmate Deonarine and had him caught by Shimron Hetmyer for 47.
Hope (22 not out) and Deonarine (10 not out) resumed their overnight position at 51 for 2 after 19 overs. And they progressed quickly to 135 when Motie struck the decisive blow and dismissed Deonarine who looked in ominous form and set for a very big score.
Deonarine’s time and placement were impeccable and looked untroubled as he hammered eight fours to move to three runs short of a well-deserved fifty (47, 91m, 100b, 8x4s), only to be denied by his younger clubmate Motie who inspired WICB Regional aggregate record-holder Permaul to exert more energy and power into his deliveries.
Red Force skipper Jason Mohammed joined Hope and they tried their utmost to regain some momentum but Permaul struck another crucial body blow when he prised out Hope for 73 (151m, 146b, 13x4s), smartly taken behind by wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble on the stroke of lunch.
The Red Force, having resumed on 51 for 2; were in a comfortable position when Deonarine and Hope added 103 for the third wicket partnership. But with both back in the pavilion cooling their heels, the Jaguars savoured the opportunity to go for the kill after the luncheon interval.
And there was no respite as both Permaul and Motie made life extremely difficult for the Trinidadians who had no clue how to negotiate the variety of deliveries that came from the fingers of the two Guyanese spinners. There was a pain and more plus acute embarrassment for the homesters with both leftarm spinners at their best.
Wickets tumbled like nine pins with Permaul leading the way as he dismissed Yannick Ottley for nought as soon as play resumed after the interval. He followed up with the wickets of Steven Katwaroo, LBW for 15, and Imran Khan, caught by Imran Khan for two.
Motie was not to be left behind as he removed skipper Jason Mohammed, LBW for 12; Marlon Richards, caught by wicketkeeper Bramble and Uthman Muhammad, caught by Ronsford Beaton for 16.
Permaul finished as the main wicket-taker with 5 for 62 from 31.1 overs while his younger counterpart Motie collected four for 43 from 23.3 overs.
Demerara Cricket Club’s all-rounder Christopher Barnwell who started the damage with 5 for 32 in the first innings and followed up with an entertaining 75 in Guyana Jaguars first innings total of 475 was voted “Player of the Match” for his outstanding all-round performances.
