Man remanded for robbery-under-arms offences committed in December 2014

WHEN Renhart Khan of 149 Cooper Street Albouystown, Georgetown appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan charged with robbery under arms, the 21-year-old fisherman pleaded not guilty to allegedly robbing Parmattie Ramroop of $2.2M and one Samsung Galaxy phone worth $120,000 whilst he was armed with a gun at Vryheid’s Lust, ECD on Tuesday, December 23, 2014.Another charge he faces is that, on the same day in question, being armed with a gun, he robbed Himchan Narine at Vryheid’s Lust, ECD of one .32 revolver worth $200,000 and six .32 rounds of ammunition. He also pleaded not guilty to this charge.

The police prosecutor objected to Khan being granted bail because he has two other matters before the Sparendaam magistrate, because a gun was allegedly used in commission of the offences, and because the defendant has been in hiding for some time.

The magistrate refused Khan’s bail, and remanded him to prison until November 30, when he will appear before the Sparendaam magistrate.
