THE Georgetown Football Club (GFC) held their nerves to clinch a well-deserved 1-1 draw against Alpha United and Buxton United defeated Monedderlust 1-0 when the STAG Elite League continued on Sunday. Playing at home, GFC went down in the first half after Alpha United skipper Daniel Wilson had put the ‘Hammers’ in control.
But the young and resilient GFC bunch regrouped nicely and found the equaliser from defender Kurt Johnson within five minutes of the second half.
Despite having a more potent attack and skilful players, Alpha United failed to penetrate the GFC defence and had to settle for shared points (a draw).
With the result, Alpha United would remain in third place being Slingerz FC and Pele, with two more rounds to be played before for the Playoffs which start on Wednesday, November 25.
Meanwhile, in the opening match of the double-header, Monedderlust plunged to their ninth loss (the most by any team) after Dellon Wright scored Buxton United’s lone goal just five minutes into their contest.
