TOPP XX and Silver Shattas recovered after being a goal down, to score come-from-behind wins in the Upper Demerara Football Association’s (UDFA) First Division League and earned full points against their opponents on Thursday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.The league championship which began on Wednesday continued with football fans seeing two more entertaining matches, as Topp XX rebounded to beat Amelia’s Ward Panthers 2-1, while Silver Shattas also gained an outright 2-1 win, as both clubs began their campaign.
While it is yet early in the league championship, Topp XX and the Amelia’s Ward Panthers could not trouble the scorecard and the first half ended 0-0. In the second half the Panthers netted the opening goal of the game through a shot from Jermain Batson in the 53rd minute to put the pressure on Topp XX from Central Mackenzie.
However, Topp XX responded to the challenge and were rewarded through a goal by Ryan Noel in the 61st minute and this was followed by the go-ahead goal in the 68th minute by Shawn ‘Dash’ Daniels for a 2-1 advantage which they never relinquished.
In the second game, Eagles United were able to put pressure on their opponents Silver Shattas as the first half neared the end by scoring in the 43rd minute off the boot of Role John.
However, one minute later before the half-time whistle was blown the scores were even, as Kellon Adams scored and cancelled the advantage by Eagles United.
With as 1-1 score-line going into the second half Colwyn Drakes was able to give his team the decisive advantage by netting in the 56th minute for Silver Shattas and this 2-1 score-line remained to the end of the game in favour of the Shattas team.
Tomorrow, the action continues at the Mackenzie Sports Cub ground when at 18:00hrs Hi Stars face Net Rockers and at 20:00hrs Milerock open their challenge against Blueberry Hill United. (Joe Chapman)
