A PARTNER from the inaugural tournament in 2011, RUBiS Guyana yesterday committed to another year of sponsorship for the Guyana Softball Cup, the fifth edition of which will bowl off tomorrow at venues across the country. At a simple, but yet significant ceremony at the RUBiS outlet on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, top officials of the company presented what was described as a “handsome” sponsorship package to members of the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA), the organisation responsible for conceptualising and sustaining the Guyana Softball Cup over the years.
Retail Accounts executive Rhonda Johnson and Sharon Mohan of the Vlissengen Road branch represented RUBiS, while the GFSCA members present were Ricky Deonarain, Jailall Deodass, Surendra Nauth and Clive Canterbury.
Johnson said her company was more than pleased to once again partner with the organisers, noting that the GSFCA has been doing a fantastic job in running off the tournament annually.
She expects the same level of professionalism that has prevailed over the years, both on and off the field, and said it should be an easy task to replicate such high standards, given the proficiency of the GFSCA members.
As has been the case over the past years, RUBiS Guyana will once again be sharing out branded products on the day of the finals.
Deodass, speaking on behalf of the GFSCA, said the body was grateful for the support of RUBiS Guyana on a yearly basis, adding that the company started its involvement with the tournament through Bel Air RUBiS for the first two years, before it became a general sponsorship on behalf of RUBiS Guyana for the past three years.
A total of 26 teams, 10 in the Open and 16 in the Masters, will compete for top honours when the tournament bowls off tomorrow. It will culminate with the grand finals on Sunday, starting at 11:00hrs and concluding under floodlights at the Demerara Cricket Club ground in Queenstown.
Wolf’s Warriors are the defending champions of the Open category, while Floodlights won the Masters division in 2014.
Meanwhile, there will be a team briefing this afternoon from 17:30hrs at the Georgetown Cricket Club pavilion where the rules will be discussed and any other activity related to the tournament.
