SEVERAL promotions are in the making for magistrates across the country and this should take effect very soon.The promotions are in order given the elevation and confirmation of Ann Elizabeth Mc Lennan as the country’s chief magistrate. Her promotion and confirmation comes months after performing duties as Chief Magistrate following the elevation of Priya Sewnarine-Beharry as a Judge.

In a document which this publication has seen, it is stated that “The Judicial Service Commission will shortly announce a number of promotions within the magistracy.”
In confirming Mc Lennan as the Chief Magistrate, the JSC pointed out that it took note of her discipline, work ethics and dedication to the duty she performed.
Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan as she is popularly referred to within legal circles joined the magistracy in 2007, and has presided over several courts in Guyana after she was seconded from the Guyana Defence Force.
Magistrate Mc Lennan, the Judicial Service Commission noted, was a former member of the Guyana Defence Force who attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was the officer commanding the Legal Services Department.
Mc Lennan completed her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. Following that, Mc Lennan proceeded to the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad where she completed her legal education in 1996.
